Tucows.com - Tucows is the original software download site - an excellent source of shareware and freeware downloads. Tucows.com earned its name early on for being the first to provide software on a "freeware" or "shareware" basis. They currently host more than 30,000 software titles (all tested, rated and reviewed by their own editorial staff of software experts) through their international network of more than 1000 partner sites. These sites provide users with fast, local downloads.

Download.com - CNET Download.com is a library of over 30,000 free and free-to-try software programs for Windows, Macintosh, and Handheld devices. Their staff evaluates and categorizes these programs to help you decide if a program is suitable for your system and needs.

Irfanview - IrfanView is a fast and simple image viewer and editor that supports all major graphic formats, including BMP, DIB, JPEG, GIF, animated GIF, PNG, PCX, multipage TIFF, and TGA. It is my favorite utility for viewing all types of graphic formats and doing simple tasks like resizing, thumbnail pages, etc.

Easy Thumbnails - Easy Thumbnails is a popular free utility for creating accurate thumbnail images and scaled-down/up copies from a wide range of popular picture formats.

Adobe - Adobe produces a whole bunch of professional image editing, publishing, design and multimedia software. PhotoShop is the #1 image editing softwre around and it comes with ImageReady, a great application for making web ready graphics, including GIF animations, rollovers, complex tables and more. If you are willing to invest quite a bit, Adobe's products are some of the best products around. Also be sure to check out their new Photoshop Express - a free online version of the popular Photoshop.

Macromedia - In addition to their signature Shockwave Flash format and ColdFusion programming language, Macromedia has a whole slew of products. For image editing and creation, Fireworks is an excellent choice. It is very powerful and comes with a bunch of features for creating very slick looking web graphics. Where Adobe Photoshop is great for publishing/marketing/advertising and web design, Macromedia Fireworks is geared mainly toward web design.

Jasc Software - Jasc Software produces Paint Shop Pro. It's a much simpler image editor than Adobe Photoshop or Macromedia Fireworks, but the price is much more reasonable. Not my favorite, but a lot of people use it and love it.

The Gimp - The GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed piece of software suitable for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring.
